Henrico County Pest Control

You couldn't ask for more as a resident in Henrico County. Big city attractions await in Richmond, and the Atlantic sits nearby for those who enjoy water sports and sunbathing. However, pest insects also love Eastern Virginia thanks to its humid climate and warm summer temperatures. When the following pests interrupt your summer fun, the Accel team is here to help.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs have flat, oval-shaped bodies and also a reddish-brown color. Because these pests feed on blood, they develop a darker appearance as they swell. Bed bugs grow to 6 millimeters in length but can expand to 10 millimeters as they feed. They also have a secretive nature and hide very well in the recesses of luggage, bedding and furniture. They hitchhike from place to place and can go months without feeding, waiting for the right opportunity to emerge and use people and pets as hosts.

Termites

Termites look very similar to ants, having six legs, a segmented body and two antennae. However, termites have larger heads and a broader waist; they also feed on wood whereas ants eat everything from seeds and sugary liquids to other small insects. Termites cause massive damage to homes as they feed on the cellulose within the wood. Over time, a termite colony can compromise supporting walls, fences and beams and topple large and small structures.

Bees and Wasps

Though honeybees help to pollinate flowers and crops, the carpenter bee bores through wood and causes cosmetic damage. Carpenter bees don't eat the wood; however, the female bores through it to create a nest for her eggs. Female carpenter bees are quite docile, but the males are extremely territorial and will dive at you or hover in front of your face. Fortunately, males don't have stingers and can't hurt you.

Wasps are another problem altogether. They build nests near entryways and cause a real threat to people with bee allergies. One sting could send someone to the hospital, so it's important to keep a safe distance when wasps are in the area. Other stinging insects, such as yellow jackets and hornets, can also build nests around your home and threaten your children and pets.
